The Great 50 Days of Easter: Day 12, Friday
This prayer is inspired by the book, ILLUMINATED LIFE: MONASTIC WISDOM FOR SEEKERS OF THE LIGHT.
The story of some disciples in the Benedictine Community asking what to do if they see a brother dozing during the sacred office goes something like this: they ask the Abba, “Should we pinch them so they will stay awake?” He replies, “Actually if I saw a brother sleeping, I would put his head on my knees and let him rest.”
God of all compassion and understanding, the simple things are so often the things we overlook.
Life is not perfect, and people are not perfectible.
You forgive us over and over again, and the closer we are to you, the more we see that there is no rule that is more important than the person in front of us.
Help us to love each other with true compassion and understanding.
In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
Amen.
